The development of new concepts for silicon solar cells has shown promising results in recent years. Especially rear-contact cells become more and more attractive for cell manufactures. One of these concepts is the MWT (metal wrap through)-concept that allows new beneficial contact arrangements on the front and rear side of the cells whereat specific electrical effects have to be considered. Referring to this a special simulation tool was realized in order to compare different cell designs and calculate the electrical behavior of MWT-cells. The tool is based on SPICE which is successfully used for various cell simulations as well [1], [2], [3]. The presented tool allows an enhanced network assembly for complex cell structures by using digital images reflecting the cell structure.
