Document Types & Formats

The Fraunhofer-ePrints full-text server archives specialist publications of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, its institutes, and its employees. The subject areas covered in the database correspond to the research areas of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

The following types of documents are held:
  • Journal articles
  • Articles in compendiums and conference proceedings
  • Monographs
  • Theses (professorial and doctoral dissertations)
  • Conference papers and proceedings
  • Research reports
  • Patents and registered designs
  • Grey literature

In future, we intend to be able to archive non-textual data.

The primary aim of the Fraunhofer-ePrints is on the one hand to archive as many electronic full-texts as possible that have already been published elsewhere; on the other, to enable public access to scientific grey literature of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft such as institute reports, theses (only with permission from the institutes concerned), presentation manuscripts and posters.

The documents on Fraunhofer-ePrints are currently provided as PDF (Adobe "Portable Document Format") files.
When creating PDFs, please note the following points:

  1. Embed the fonts used.
  2. Do not lock your PDF files.  We shall be applying "secure text" protection to all PDF files to allow printing, but not any "cut-and-paste" action. For the purpose of full-text indexing, raw texts will be extracted from the PDF files and be saved separately as .txt files.
  3. Please set the resolution to at least 300 dpi.

Please feel free to contact us, when you have any questions or when you need help with converting your documents to PDF files.
