Dental implants with flexible inserts - a possibility to improve the stress distribution in the jaw.

Zahnimplantate mit intramobilen Einsätzen - eine Möglichkeit zur Verbesserung der im Kiefer erzeugten Spannungsverteilungen
Abstract
Dental implants are frequently not long-time reliable because of loosening due to resorption phenomena in the surrounding bone. This resorption is mostly caused by local overstressing of the bone which is generated by the serious change of the original biomechanical situation. Performing Finite-Element calculations for a cylindrical pin-shaped implant in an idealized jaw bone model it is shown that these stress concentrations can be reduced by using flexible inserts with varying stiffness along their axes. Additionally, this increased flexibility leads to a more homogeneous distribution of the applied forces to the neighbouring teeth or implants so that the loading situation is generally improved.
