Abstract
WO 200177409 A UPAB: 20020308 NOVELTY - In selective, metal-based activation of substrates for wet-chemical, electroless plating, the substrate surface is activated with activator metal, as such or as precursor, which is transported selected to the area to be activated by means of vesicles. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for (a) wet chemical, electroless deposition of metal films on substrate surfaces by (i) activation as above and (2) metallization of the activated areas in a wet chemical, electroless metallization bath; (b) vesicle mixture, comprising vesicles filled with an activator metal precursor and vesicle mixture filled with a reaction particle for converting the precursor to the activator metal as soon as the vesicle membranes are opened; (c) vesicle suspension of this mixture in a suitable medium. USE - The process is used selective, metal-based activation of substrates for wet-chemical, electroless plating, especially on circuit boards for microelectronic devices (all claimed). It is useful for continuous or discontinuous production of thin metal films, especially finely structurized films in the mu m to nm region, on organic and inorganic, preferably dielectric substrates, e.g. polymers, ceramics and semiconductor materials. The metallized structures are especially useful in microelectronics and can also be used in optics, microtechnology in general, for decorative purposes or as printed matter. ADVANTAGE - Very fine structures can be produced by usual printing or dispensing technique and at room temperature, independently of the substrate material.
