Abstract
DE 19845423 A UPAB: 20000531 NOVELTY - A hot emitter, having a metallic surface with a microstructure of peaks and troughs for producing optical resonance in a certain emission wavelength region, is new. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for production of the above hot emitter by coating of its smooth metallic surface with a photoresist lacquer, double holographic exposure of the lacquer with intermediate rotation of the metallic surface, development of the exposed lacquer and transfer of the exposed microstructure into the metallic surface by etching. Preferred Features: The metallic surface consists of tungsten. USE - For emitting electromagnetic radiation in the visible and IR spectral regions, especially as a 'grey body' used in thermophotovoltaic applications for supplying IR energy to photocells for conversion into electrical energy. ADVANTAGE - The microstructure provides selective emission properties for improved matching of the spectral region of the emitted radiation with the spectral sensitivity of photocells, so that undesired heating of the photocells is avoided. Additionally, the emitter has a greater long term stability than prior art emitters of rare earth oxides.
