Coating plastics for optical and optoelectronical applications
Abstract
Abstract Transparent thermoplastic polymers are suitable materials to produce precision optical and optoelectronical parts. Coating of plastic optics requires substrate specific technologies to realise sufficient coating adhesion on the different organic surfaces. To protect the soft surfaces hard coatings should be combined with optical functional thin films. Such multifanction coating can be prepared by Ion Assisted Deposition (IAD) at low temperature. For PM1AA and other polymers, special plasma pre-treatments and Plasma-Ion Assisted Deposition (Plasma-IAD) have been applied successfully to improve adhesion and to produce multifunctional coatings.
