Titel
Benefits and Challenges of the Integration of Nondestructive Testing into Material and Process Engineering
Abstract
History and development of industrial applications of nondestructive testing technologies can be characterized by the needs for safe use of products respectively for operation of equipment to minimize the risk of failure of materials or functions which can lead to serious damages to men or environment. Modern understanding of underlying physics of nondestructive methods and the inexpensive computerization of equipment open new application topics to improve and to record quality of products and processes, and perform maintenance activities for higher demonstrated reliability of operation in shorter times with reduced costs. For successful realization of NDT needed for these applications, NDT must become an integrated part of the R & D and engineering activites of concern. This makes necessary a new interdisciplinary approach to identify benefits of NDT-integration and to organize successful simultaneous engineering with material, process and quality experts. Examples of integration of N DT ilustrate organization and running of marketing and engineering, and explain the specifics and benefits of the resulting integrated nondestructive testing techniques.
