Abstract
The base for proposing this project were the successfull results of the BMFT-project "LEGIS", in which could be shown, that the new class of materials called "transparent insulation materials" is able to initialize totally new aspects of an efficient use of solar energy in the field of collectors and buildings. The end of the first project also showed that a large number of questions and problems are still to be solved before product and systems with these materials are ready to be placed on the market. In close co-operation with the industry new methods for measuring were developed to optimize the materials and the components for special applications. Newly materials were developed with significantly improved datas. Beside the simulation of materials, components and complete systems, the most crucial point was the realization of demonstration projects. Unconventional collector systems, which could only be realized with these new materials, like integrated collector storage systems, fl ate plate process heat collectors and massive storage solar cookers, have been realized. Applications of transparent insulation in the field of building facades had been tested not only for new buildings but also for the retrofitting of old buildings. Therefore, totally new possibilities for use of solar energy for heating purposes have been established. The research work on these materials also showed, that there is a tremendous number of applications for the effective use of solar energy.
