Abstract
The report presents data of the streamwise velocity behind a shock wave traveling along a dense gas layer. The dense gas layer was created by injecting Freon through the porous floor of the shock tube. The streamwise velocity histories that were obtained by the means of a 4-channel LDV system revealed two characteristic regimes in the evolution of the mixing layer: an initial periodic regime that was dominated by wave reflections in the Freon layer, and later, a turbulent shear flow.
