Abstract
The Biaxial Wheel Test Facility is a computer controlled service load simulator for durability life testing on the complete wheel-hub-assembly of passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The facility is capable to simulate the loads of any test track and of the standard load program "Eurocycle", as a standardized procedure for the proof of adequate service life taking into account the product liability requirements for safety components. The use control system, which is based on load sequence combinations stored in the computer memory, allows to adjust the two load control channels easily to different wheel design loads and vehicle characteristics with high accuracy and reproduction quality. The amount of wheel tilt during the test is decisive to realize a high ratio of lateral vs. vertical wheel forces, assuring a realistic deformation of the wheel and hub assembly during the test; the wheel tilt is varied automatically during the test as a function of load ratio, tire width and stiffn ess. Due to it all decisive influences for the fatigue strength evaluation of wheels and hubs are taken into account. Furthermore the loading conditions of typical test tracks, different type of cars, and operational conditions can be simulated.
