Predictions of the Performance of Modern Interior Ballistics Propulsion Systems by Standard Codes
Abstract
The paper deals with the computational prediction of the performance of modern types of interior ballistics propulsion systems for guns and its analysis. Such propulsion systems are, for example, ETC-systems, systems with high loading densitites or systems with a ratio of charge mass over projectile mass > 1. The standard interior ballistics c odes applied are those types of codes that are widely spread and routinely used for describing the interior ballistics cycle theoretically. Three different types of codes, a thermodynamic model with global parameters (IBHVG2), a 1-D gasdynamic model (XKTC) as well as a 2-D gasdynamic model (AMI). The computational results of the codes are compared for standard propulsion technologies as well as for more advanced systems.
