The book, intended for extensive use by engineers who design and develop new precision components, pays particular attention to the design of components which have to withstand variable loading during their service life. Illustrative examples are used to describe the procedure to be followed when designing components for fatigue loading and quantitative comparisions are given between the strength characteristics of PM steels and those of forged and cast ferrous alloys. Theoretical and experimental methods are outlined for use in dimensioning, as well as ways of achieving increased fatigue strength.
