Abstract
Using the image evaluation system VISTA (Visual Interpretation System for Technical Applications), we have implemented the algorithm for the interpretation of line drawings first suggested by Sugihara. His method is able to provide a qualitative, topological object description from two-dimensional line drawings of polyhedral scenes. We would like to use this method in order to recognize manufactured parts consisting of bent metal sheets. These are well-suited for this algorithm since we can regard them as polyhedral objects if the bending region is small compared to the scale of the entire object. We use the result of a contour extraction operator as input to the interpretation algorithm.
