Abstract
Production of highly crosslinked silicon carbonitride materials comprises: (a) dissolving a disilane mixture substituted with chlorine and alkyl groups, from the distillation residues of alkyl chlorosilane synthesis in aqueous organic solvent; (b) reacting with gaseous, dry ammonia to a poly silazane mixture; and (c) removing from the precipitated ammonium chloride, and heat treating at 600-1400 deg. C after removing the aqueous organic solvent. USE - Used in the production of high performance ceramic materials, used at temperatures above 1200 deg. C. ADVANTAGE - Poly silazanes can be produced without removing the starting mixture and without adding defined silanes or catalysts.
