Abstract
By measuring the distance between the fixed points, the distance from the sensor and a mark can be determined. The sensor is on the vehicle (1) and the fixed points (2,3) are at the marks shown. The measured distance is compared with that expected to identify the marks. The collimated light beam is from a laser diode in the orienting sensor and the beam is directed to a rotating mirror, inclined at 45 degrees to the axis of rotation. The beam is reflected by the reflecting surfaces (2,3) back by the rotating mirror to the receiving unit in the vehicle, and this receiving unit consists of an interference filter, a lens, and a photodiode. Electronic units then make the calculation needed to supply the position of the vehicle. USE/ADVANTAGE - Suitable for transport, public and private vehicles. Position of vehicle can be found without expensive equipment and complicated calculations.
