User interface management systems
Abstract
The acceptance of an interactive graphical computer system is crucially dependent on the quality of its user interface (UI). Human factors research shows that graphical man-machine interfaces are extremely useful and will be the dialogue form of the future. There is therefore a great interest in tools to support the design and the implementation of these interfaces. This seminar will review the following topics: a: Historical development of User Interface Management Systems (UIMS) b: Relation of User Interface Toolkits and UIDS(User interface Development Systems)/UIMS c: Integration of Graphics Systems, Window Management systems and UIDS/UIMS d: State-of-the-Art of available systems e: Future research directions, especially standardization activities, the role of AI in UI, object oriented programming for UI and interactive video.
