Abstract
The invention refers to the surface hardening of machine components. The objective of the invention of providing and manufacturing turbine blades with better protection against droplet impact erosion is solved according to the invention et al. by the fact that the constant surface hardness of a very hard layer (2) of the turbine blade represented in the drawing corresponds to the maximum hardness of the steel selected, the depth of this very hard layer (2) is 0.1 to 0.9 mm, the total hardening depth is 0.7 to 3.5 mm and the very hard coating (2) extends at least up to the location (5) in the vicinity of the leading edge at which the direction of impingement (6) of the most damaging droplet size fraction is parallel to the tangent at the surface. Said turbine blade is manufactured, according to the invention, by means of a high energetic surface hardening process. One of the main applications of the solution according to the invention is the treatment of the final stage blades of steam turbines exposed to heavy droplet impact.
