Titel
Transmission switching using microencapsulated liquid crystal films
Abstract
Micro-encapsulated liquid crystal devices have been prepared, which switch the amount of directhemispherical transmitted radiation in the solar spectral range by values up to 35%, depending on the film thickness and applied voltage. Examples of spectrally dependent transmittance, voltage dependence and angular distribution of the scattered radiation are presented. Such switchable devices can be considered for nonmechanical variable shading elements to prevent overheating in TIM systems.
