Abstract
After impact loading of steels changes of microstructure are possible. One of the most important is the occurence of shear bands which - in the etched state - yield no microscopic structure and appear as white lines. These phenomena of white streaks of impact-loaded steel 45 CrMoV 6 7 are represented. Areas near the crater and the path of projectile are investigated. The phenomena are compared with results and mechanisms reported in the literature. From these results a specimen is designed by which - using a Hopkinson bar - it is possible to produce white streaks in laboratory. The structure of these artifically produced shear bands is compared with those of bands around the path of projectile. (IFAM)
