Stand der Untersuchungen über die externen Kosten der Elektrizitätserzeugung
Abstract
In view of the increasing environmental and health damages due to economic activities an intense debate on the quantification, monetization and internalisation of external effects of electricity generation and use started in the late 1980s. The paper summarizes the present results of the international discussion and shows the relevance of the costs presently handed on to third parties for the competitive situation of wind energy and photovoltaics. Due to the higher external costs of conventional electricity generation the market introduction of renewable energy sources is seriously delayed as compared to their optimal introduction judged from a perspective of full cost accounting.
