Titel
Rapid fabrication of dies and molds for pilot and series production
Abstract
One of the challenges in production engineering during the last years has been to speed up fabrication of dies and molds for pilot and series production while maintaining a constant level of quality and decreasing, if possible, fabrication costs to stay competitive. Rapid Tooling by Stereolithography, Selective laser Sintering and Controlled Metal Build Up offers an interesting alternative to the conventional time consuming processes for the manufacture of prototype tools required for limited production runs. Milling with toroidal end mills and small tools is a way to accelerate manufacture of dies and molds for series production. Both of these approaches will be explained in this paper.
