Project monitoring
Abstract
Punctuality, quality and low prices are demands which can only be fulfilled if the process of product development is also exactly planned, monitored and controlled. But it is precisely smaller and medium-sized companies which am frequently overburdened in this. The Fraunhofer Technology Development Group started conerning itself with this problem eighteen months ago and has developed a pragmatic but nevertheless extensive management system for suppliers in the automobile industry which can be used by practically all the areas of producing industry. The centrepiece is a planning board made of paper (about one metre square), on which all the important information about a project is put together as a refined combination of various planning and control elements.Tried and tested procedures of project management such as trend analysis of costs are integrated, as is a failure mode and effect analysis. The planning board is part of an information pyramid: from the bottom, it feeds to company's internal computer system, towards the top, the information is passed onto the decision-maker in question in a compressed form. In the event of further interest on the part of the concrete and prefabricated parts industry, the BFT would be prepared to arrange a joint symposium with the Technology Development Group.
