Abstract
A sonic investigation of the potential of the ComScan system concerning the contrast resolution and depth resolution of concrete and steel reinforced concrete give the following results: The localisation and determination of the depth of the steel reinforcement in concrete can be performed with the ComScan system up to a depth of 50 mm. The size and geometry of aggregates can only be described in areas near the surface. In these areas the system detects pores of a size of 0.5 mm. Pores of a size of 1 mm can be detected to a depth of 20 mm. The moisture in concrete gives only a small signal. The resolution of the system can be improved by a reconstruction of the density distribution layer by layer.
