Abstract
Test cells made of two thin film materials are investigated under realistic reporting conditions: a- Si-H and CuInSe2. Basically a-Si-H cells exhibit strong spectral effects and small temperature effects when operated outdoors. In contrast CuInSe2 devices have a strongly temperature dependent performance and a negligible spectral effect. Therefore the sitespecific performance of these two different thin film cells is vastly different. For the degradation modelling of a-Si:H cells, a model proposed in (1) is investigated. By comparison with several other degradation experiments, a certain generalisation of the model is possible. When this model is applied to realistic reporting conditions an equilibrium state between degradation and arinealing processes defines an end-of-life state. A Site-dependent degradation study reveals that the annual average temperature of the location fundamentally influences the overall reduction in the solar cell performance. A method for simultaneous simulati on of RRC effects and degradation is developed.
