PDT-based integrated quality management in the product development process - a working demonstrator
Abstract
As part of the BMBF (German government ministery for education, research, and technology) funded project QCIM (Quality Management by CIM) concepts and models have been developed for quality management in design based on an integrated modeling approach. Product Data Technology is playing a key role in this approach. An integrated information model captures and structures the necessary information using a parametric modeling approach. By this an integrated concept for product modeling and the representation and usage of solution library elements has been developed and implemented in the information model. This integrated model serves as an "Application Reference Model" in Product Data Technology. It supports the following life cycle stages: requirement modeling, functional, physical, and shape design. Further developments focus on the extensions required to also support process planning and the usage of products as resources in production processes. An interactive WWW demonstrator shows the usability and validity of these PDT concepts and gives a vision how product design may look like in the future. Using an example product (a transmission sold by a german company) the scenario presents the usage of the reference model in design. Implemented as an interactive WWW demonstrator, it provides a "look and feel" of an integrated product modeling system based on the concepts of the reference model. This paper presents the model approach and the concepts of the reference model. The scenario of the future product design process will be shown, supplemented by a life WWW-demonstration.
