Abstract
Surface embrittlement of ductile thermoplastics by brittle surface layers is due to the dynamic stress- strain conditions in front of a running crack at transition from the coating layer into the substrate. In this study the fracture behaviour of a differently coated substrate has been predicted combining the respective fracture mechanics, results. These predictions have been compared with the results of impact experiments on coated specimens.
