New user interface aspects to the information highway. Applying Java and VRML
Abstract
Due to the availability of suitable information and communication technology, decreasing costs of hardware as well as increasing network bandwidth, the Internet is currently reaching a rapidly growing user community. However, the underlying technology for currently used World Wide Web document design based on HTML has significant limitations on development of intuitive and user friendly applications. These kind of user interface is especially important for novice users in order to enable an easy and effective access to the information space and to prevent them form getting lost in hyperspace. New technologies such as Java and VRML offer new possibilities for user interface design. Important issues which need to be addressed, are the consequences of applying these technologies. Will the provision of new enabling technologies solve all the user interface design problems?
