Abstract
New hardware and software developments by the IZFP in the field of eddy current testing technique provide an efficient testing system with the following mainfeatures: Multifrequency eddy cunrrent device with a high signal dynamic (>85 dB) and an extremly high signal stability in order to detect and characterize minimal measuring effects in a highly noisy testing environment. Signal processing algorithm (digital filter techniques) in order to suppress any systematic disturbing signals and to quantitatively describe the testing parameters. Numerical modelling software for a fast and comprehensive calculation fo the measuring effects, as a function of the relevant influence parameters (test frequency, probe parameters, disturbing paramters, testing parameters). The modelling helps to deepen the physical comprehension in signal interpretation and the optimization of procedure parameters. Ther are many new fields of application based on these tools, e.g.: Flaw detection with high depth rang e (amongst other things full volumetric testing of austenitic welds up to a thickness of 10mm). Simultaneous determination of the surface hardness and hardening depth in steel and of the strength of aluminium respectively (hardness, yield strength, tensile strength). Simultaneous determination of the electric conductivity and the magnetic permeability in steel. Results from the above mentiones application fields are presented after the description of the testing system.
