The goal of the MoVi researcher group is to investigate the architectural and modeling implications created by the scenario of a mobile access to globally distributed multimedia information systems. This paper gives an introduction to the MoVi project, its goals and workpackages, as well as a discussion of the fundamental modeling concepts. Based on the generic application scenario of the "Infoverse" and an analysis of the characteristic properties of the mobile application environment - as captured by a reference model introduced in the paper -, possible alternatives for object and architecture models are outlined. The fundamental observation is here that a mobile access to the Infoverse must be based on a user-level data model; the "frame" model is selected as suitable alternative. It is then discussed, how the basic frame model could be extended to support the specific requirements of "Mobile Visualization" (e.g., alternative visualization techniques), and how frames could be used f or application partitioning. Finally, a basic system architecture supporting these extensions is described.
