Monitoring the temporal behaviour of laser power is necessary for the analysis of physical processes during machining as well as for steering and controlling in industrial applications. A compact detector unit developed especially for 10 mym-IR-laser radiation over a bandwidth from DC to 300 kHz is presented and its basic operating principles are described in this paper.
