Abstract
A new method is presented for contact free measurement of ultrasonic absorption in polycrystalline materials.Short laser pulses are used for the generation of ultrasonic pulses, and an optical interferometer for the detection of the reverberation of these pulses in the whole specimen. Measurements on aluminium, steel, and white cast iron are presented.
