Abstract
The results of half cells experiments with Li/LiCo02 in inorganic electrolyte solution indicate stability, compatibility and high rate capability of this system. The electrolyte solution has an acceptable conductivity of about 65 mS/cm at 25 degreeC and can be used in the range from -25 up to 70 degreeC. Potentiodynamic cycling of the LiCo02 electrode between 3.5 and 4.5 V versus Li show power loss with capacity decrease of 0.3% per cycle. Charging up to 5 V results in no degradation of the Co02 electrode. In an overcharge reaction Cl2 is evolved reacting with components to compatible products. The formation Of Cl2 at Ni-electrode is shown by applying on-line electrochemical mass spectrometry. Lithium cycle efficiencies of about 98% at 40 mA/cm2 were achieved.
