Titel
Laser welding of aluminium
Abstract
Laser beam welding is characterized by high welding speeds and the possibility of welding overlap joints by using the deep penetration effect. Due to the high processing speed laser beam welding is especially suitable for long, one dimensional welds which always occur in case of tailored blanking. In addition to that it offers new possibilities in constructions of light-weight structures, where lapped joints are often used. Today in both fields of application aluminum alloys are interesting materials. Therefore this paper will discuss weldability aspects of the aluminum alloys AA5082 and AA6016 with plate thickness between 1mm and 3mm.
