To meet the increasing requirement to monitor the temporal and spatial change of ozone concentration in the atmosphere, efforts have been made to develop a portable and simple compact ozone photometer. A prototype of the miniaturized ozone measuring system was built by using a low pressure mercury capillary lamp and semiconductor photo detectors with one single (35cm) optical cell. To improve the resolution and stability of the instrument, the second UV-detector was mounted in front of the lamp to monitor and calibrate the UV light intensity. The usage of a reduction lens and carefully adjusting the lamp and detectors structure create the same working condition for the two detectors. Satisfying results with a resolution of 5ppb and a drift smaller than 10ppb/hour were achieved. The ozone photometer with compact size and simple structure features good linearity, repeatability, and very good selectivity.
