Titel
Gastric mucous cell might be involved in the synthesis of surface active phospholipids
Abstract
Phospholipids (PL) are likely to be involved in the protection of the gastric mucosal surface against ulcerogenic noxes. In surface cells of the rat stomach myeline like structures, which might be secreted to the lumen, can be observed by electron mircoscopy. A major component of sufcae active PL is the saturated fatty acid palmitic acid (PA).. Therefore we studied the function of (PA) as a precursor for PL synthesis of guinea pig gastric mucosal cells. The preferential and incorporation of PA into PC and the detection of membranous structures in intracellular vesicles supports the assumption that mucous cells are able synthesize and secrete surface active phospholipids.
