Abstract
A systematic approch identifies basic operations of assembly. A classification of operations and parts enables to employ the best method in each case. The increasing variety of assembly tasks calls for flexible solutions e.g. assembly robots. Future development will see an enhanced integration into the whole production process. Reliable and intelligent periphery advances new applications.
