Abstract
A fibre-reinforced composite material which is suitable in particular for application as the metal core in balancing weights, consists of a tungsten heavy metal alloy made of fibres embedded in a matrix made of a metal powder, whose density is identical to or greater than that of the tungsten heavy metal alloy. The fibres have a structure by which longitudinally stretched, unidirectionally arranged tungsten grains are arranged in a matrix preferably of iron nickel having the function of short fibre reinforcement. Preferably, tungsten powder is used for the metal powder.
