Experimental methods to evaluate mechanical data of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) at low temperatures will be presented in this paper. In addition the cryogenic mechanical response of unidirectional composites with duroplastic as well as thermoplastic matrices to mechanical and thermal loads will be described. An overview of the influence of the components on the cryogenic mechanical behavior of a UD-composite under quasi static and cyclic loading at 77 K will be given respectively. In addition the composite response to cyclic thermal loading will be described.
