It is argued that all the partners involved in European projects in related fields such as microelectronics form a virtual community. At home they are linked with additional organisations such as public authorities for funding, industrial associations such as chambers of commerce, scientific associations such as IEEE etc. Those organisations are interested in certain aspects of the community, for instance to get added value by sharing experiences or synergy by collaboration. It is the purpose of the EMP (European Microelectronic Partners) to provide a platform for information exchange. For this purpose, a conference structure has been developped that allows certain subsets of the virtual community to meet, for instance providers of technology and users as well as specialists involved in technology transfer. A core team of organizers and experts are moving around in various European countries to disseminate information on sucess stories.
