Titel
Diurnal changes in the glutathione content of spruce needles (Picea abies L.)

Diurnale Änderungen im Glutathiongehalt von Fichtennadeln - Picea abies L
Abstract
The glutathione content of spruce needles undergoes a light-dependent diurnal rhythm with high concentrations during midday and low concentrations during the night. Though the glutathione concentration of the needles declines during spring and summer, a constant amplitude of the diurnal variation of 0,2 mM is observed at extremely low temperatures in early spring as well as at high temperatures in the summer. Apparently, the diurnal rhythm of the glutathione concentration in spruce needles is temperature-independent and superimposed on the seasonal fluctuations of this peptide. Though the amount of glutathione involved in the diurnal rhythm is five to ten times higher than the total cysteine content of the needles, the cysteine concentration does not show diurnal variation.
