Our world is now entering an age where our current understanding of telecommunications and graphics computing will be constantly challenged. A current instance of this technology is the universal advance of network and graphics technology, new business models, and global infrastructure development that are transforming the solitary, platform-centric model of 3D computing. With the availability of global information highways it is now likely that intercontinental collaboration using 3D graphics will become a common task of aily work. Already, world-class automobile manufacturers are attempting to reduce car development cycle to two years. Global engineering teams have been enlisted to make this happen. However, new tools such as shared 3D Environments and distributed product data management systems are required to enable this process.
