Titel
Module- and chain-based architecture for creating virtual and augmented reality manuals
Abstract
Rendering on mobile devices is established very well by now. This technology can be excellently used by service technicians as a supportive medium. Due to its small size and the descriptive ability of virtual reality based techniques, mobile devices are an ideal medium for interactive on-site manuals. To improve this approach, augmented reality is a method to combine the real environment with virtual information blended into the field of view of the user. The result is a step-by-step manual of reparation tasks that are presented in completely different ways, like pure virtual information, virtual information overlaid over a preset image, or even information calibrated over an image made by the technician on site. This paper presents an architecture that allows the creation of different kinds of task presentations. It is based on elementary modules, which can be linked together to create chains representing a special type of task.
