System zur Visualisierung geographischer Migrationspfade von Mobilen Agenten
Abstract

EARTH is a system to observe mobile agents on the basis of their geographical position. The visualization of the agent environment is implemented with three-dimensional scene models over Java3D. The agent platform SeMoA provides the required infrastructure and technology. So far it had been possible only to determine the location of a mobile agent via the server's URL on which the agent resided at that moment. This URL does not contain any specification concerning an agent geographically position. The graphic system developed shows a model of Earth, and displays how mobile agents move; their positions and migration paths are presented very efficiently and descriptive. As guideline assistance information objects can be inserted additionally along with the agents into the respective model, to reflect e. g. frontiers, cities, earth textures, the graticule of Earth and much more. These are mapped in form of layers over the model. As source for digital maps ESRI-Shapefiles are used. They contain additional contentwise information about the stored forms, e. g. name of the object, population density, gross national product, etc. Such detailed information can be called within EARTH over the info-projector. The advantages of EARTH are situated in user-friendliness and the fastidious three-dimensional representation of an agent's surrounding field. User-friendliness arises from a clearly structured, cleared up user interface and as a result of simple and understandable operability. The displayed tree structure of the scene additionally provides easy orientation and overview within the model. It is similar to the "look and feel" of file browsers. The "3D-projector" was developed in such a way that the user can execute no model movements, which would leave the scene not being visible. Additionally, for better orientation, an altitude control and an exact geoposition indication are visible constantly. With the development of EARTH a model management was created, which permits changes to the model graph objects without losing its previous states. Over a "history" the user is able to display possible model images of a defineded time interval. Additionally a procedure was developed, which allows structural model modifications to the Java3D scene graph which preserves the animation ability and a certain topicality of the scene at the same time. As a result of its open architecture many expandabilities arise for EARTH, whereby the freely importable Shapefiles play an important role with the development of further ranges of application. The structure of EARTH allows it to represent any mobile object not only mobile agents. Therefore it can be used in other areas also. With the use of Java and Java3D as render engine the system is platform independent and possibly is applicable mobilely. The problem-specific partitioning of the developed system model took place following the "model view control" architecture, structured in a modular system and thus easy maintenance and expandability are guaranteed. EARTH extends the agent platform SeMoA by additional components, whereby in the future it will be possible for developers and users to observe an interesting part of the system, i. e. the real movement of the mobile agents to pursue over a graphic interface.
