Titel
Bonding behaviour of chips from sap- and heartwood of pine (Pinus Sylvestris [L.])
Abstract
Chipboards prepared from heart- and sapwood of pine using alkaline Phenol Formaldehyde (PF) and Tannin Formaldehyde (TF) resins as binders were evaluated for their mechanical properties, thickness swelling and formaldehyde release. Moreover, preliminary tests on the biological resistance of the boards were carried out. The results reveal that boards made from heartwood are of higher intenal bond strength, lower thickness swelling and formaldehyde release compared to those from sapwood. Interim results on the biological resistance of the boards indicate that TF-bonded boards from heartwood are of higher biological resistance than boards prepared from sapwood.
