Titel
Numerical simulation of an air jet and modeling of its deflection by sound
Abstract
Coltman's experiment on the jet deflected by sound is re-examined numerically using computational fluid dynamical (CFD) simulation. The simulated jet is analyzed to obtain the phase delay and the magnitude of the deflection amplitude. A new jet deflection model is developed from these analyses. With this model, overblowing behavior of an organ flue pipe with a change in blowing pressure is estimated by physical modeling simulation. The estimated behavior is compared with the one estimated with Fletcher's and Coltman's models as well as the one observed in the actual organ pipe.
