Abstract
Multi-component powder injection moulding is a new field of advanced research in structural and also functional ceramic engineering since it offers the possibility to combine at least two different powder materials e.g. ceramic and steel in one component by having just one co-shaping step [1,2,3]. Especially the near net shape characteristics, the possibility of large scale production and the high level of automation make sure that the process technology is demanded with big interest in industry for manufacturing mainly small and complex shaped component s made of sintered materials. To simplify the process and tool technology in usual multi-component injection moulding routes there normally two feedstock materials are injected into the mould the inmould labelling technology known from plastic shaping is transferred in this contribution into powder technology. Therefore green tapes made of ceramic (yttria stabilized ZrO2) and/or metal (17-4PH) powders were put into the mould as semi manufactured products before injecting the feedstock material made of metal or ceramic powders. Considering the boundary conditions for co-sintering steel and ceramic powders as well as the chemical compatibility of the used binder systems it was shown that the geometrically modification of the green tapes especially in the third dimension can be seen as value adding process steps, that can simplify the manufacturing process for multi-component shaping explicitly.
