Fraunhofer ISE ()

In a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Reactor safety (BMU) Fraunhofer ISE has designed and implemented a new kind of research unit for applied R&D for silicon solar cell production. The Photovoltaic Technology Evaluation Center (PV-TEC) features a high throughput baseline industrial solar cell production process with the possibility to carry out new processes by using innovative functions that have been implemented in the processing tools. The service center has been created to support the German and European photovoltaic industry with large scale reseach opportunities. The center features various high quality characterisation tools for intensive process characterisation. The line is fully operational since the 30 June 2006. A standard solar cell process for mono- and mult-crystalline silicon wafers is set-up, serving as a reference for PV technology innovations. Several R&D projects commissioned by are already underway or completed.
