Holistic Energy Efficiency in Production Facilities through Predictive and Combined Control of Production and Peripherals
Abstract

Due to rising energy prices and increasingly strict environmental policy requirements, energy efficiency has become increasingly important in recent years. Basically, there are two main types of energy consumers in production plants: the production system, which uses resources to produce value-added, and the peripheral system, which provides a necessary environment for the production plant. The two systems are highly interdependent and mutually influence their energy consumption, but are often not considered as one system. In the following, a concept of a predictive control for a combined production and peripheral system is presented, which enables a holistic energy efficiency through coordination of the two systems.
