Titel
Influence of ceramic media composition on material removal in vibratory finishing
Abstract
Vibratory finishing is a common machining process that is used as a final step in manufacturing. In this process, relative motion between workpieces and media cause material removal at workpieces' surfaces. A widely-used media type is preformed ceramic media. Manufacturers offer a wide range of media compositions that are not standardised. In this paper, the influence of ceramic media composition on grinding performance and limiting roughness is investigated. Additionally, media topography is analysed and correlated with observed surface topography at workpieces. Furthermore, material removal mechanisms for different media compositions are compared. Results can be used for future media development.
