Abstract
The concept of a Cognitive Digital Twin (abbreviated CT or CDT) is presented in this paper as an extension of Digital Twins (DTs) with cognitive capabilities in the context of the process industry. With cognitive capabilities, we foresee possibilities for the next level of automation in process control systems. This article proposes an architecture associated with a CT control system, exemplified in a process industry use case. The CT is therefore seen as a more comprehensive approach in comparison to a traditional DT.
